Coast Mountain Sports Sprint Series
- Race 1: Apr 11, 2019
- Thirty-nine hardy souls braved threatening skies and April wind chill to complete the first of the five races in the inaugural Coast Mountain Sports Sprint Series. Unlike our regular meets where there are four courses of differing difficulty, this series has only one course containing a "butterfly loop." This means that there are two loops that are run in different order by each runner (sequence AB or BA), though the overall distance is the same.
- The best four out of five races in the series will be used to calculate a runners overall score for the series.
- Additional awards for the fastest cummulative times on the longest leg, and the fastest cummulative times from the last control to the finish.

- Forty-one competitors honed their navigation skills in the second race in the series. Many of our younger competitors improved their performance as they begin to learn the ropes. In the Elite F21 age class, the top three finishers from race 1 were out of town, letting Jane Hollenberg and Bryn Knight more up in the point ranking - but there are still 3 races to go! In the Elite M21 age class, Colin Abbott is managing to keep ahead of Caelan McLean, but we have a new arrival in town, Leif Blake, who is close behind. Remember the final point score is for the best four out of five races.

- Twenty-six competitors made the trip to wonderful Carcross for the third race in the spint series. The weather was cloudy and blustery, but the rain held off. Competitors got the chance to race on the sprint map developed especially for the North American Orienteering Championships in 2018. There were a few tricky spots with some deadends to avoid and a control on the upper deck of the S.S. Tutshi. Once again, some of the faster racers were not in attendance, allowing others to gain vaulable points for their overall score. Hope to see everyone there for race 4 on May 9 in Riverdale.

- Forty-seven competitors welcomed warm, sunny spring weather in Riverdale - many people ran in shorts. In the women's elite class, Pia, Jane, and Jennifer jostled for position. In the men's elite class, Colin ran a solid first, with Leif and Caelan having a tight finish for 2nd and 3rd place. The final race in the sprint series will be on May 16, meeting at Rotary Peace Park, and we will find out who will take the overall best scores in the various age classes. This event is also being held on World Orienteering Day, with events taking place all over the world.
